Christians are dwindling in number in the Mideast but you can still see their churches. These are respectively Maronite, Latin and Syrian Orthodox (I think) in the Al-Jdeida district of Aleppo.
Ash-sham is the area now made up of Syria, Lebanon, Palestine/Israel, and Jordan ... maybe Iraq too, but I'm not going there. This blog is about yours truly's visit there in October/November 2009
