The Great River of Damascus
Syria has a water shortage and the water gets soaked up for irrigating crops and a booming population.
Where as not so long ago children swam in the river you see here, now its a stinky little trickle and for most of its length in the city is a tunnel covered over by pavement. Note the green meridian (palm trees, etc.) in the street in background, it is now covering what use to be open river.
