The gate where tradition tells us Paul the apostle was lowered in a basket to escape from the Jews (?I think?) who were angry with his preaching Christianity. This is St. Paul chapel, behind the gate, and below an engraving from it.
Fun to see this stuff, Mark. And in this case, all about my namesake. Great to be able to follow your tour this way. BTW, Happy Thanksgiving! FYI, John has shown M&D your blog as of a couple weeks ago, and I brought printouts of a few recent pages to M&D's today for them to review. They were impressed. Included the shot of the house you stayed in, and Christian Damascus. We missed you! We were: M&D, John, me, Colleen, and Kyle. Carol called to say hi, too.
Ash-sham is the area now made up of Syria, Lebanon, Palestine/Israel, and Jordan ... maybe Iraq too, but I'm not going there. This blog is about yours truly's visit there in October/November 2009
